Mindfulness and Compassion Based Responses to Difficult Emotions
Saturday, May 2, 2020 — 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM

This practice will focus on Forgiveness, Letting Go, & Dealing with Difficulties and will follow with a discussion. Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion, offering a powerful and effective tool for emotional resilience. Mindfulness is the first step in emotional healing—being able to turn toward and acknowledge difficult thoughts and emotions (such as inadequacy, sadness, anger, or confusion) with increased present moment awareness and a spirit of openness and curiosity.

Self-compassion involves responding to these difficulties with greater kindness and understanding, to soothe and comfort ourselves when we’re in pain. MSC is an evidence-based, mindfulness-informed course that trains groups of individuals, to cultivate greater compassion for themselves and others, while being empowered by a sense of common humanity. Research has shown that self-compassion enhances emotional wellbeing, boosts happiness, improves relationships, and reduces anxiety, depression and shame. Ultimately, the techniques from MSC may be used to improve self-care and also to help clients and patients to ease and transform their relationship with difficulties in their lives.

Three Takeaways:

  • How to manage difficult emotions with greater ease and resiliency.
  • Mindfulness and self-compassion skills to use at home, in the workplace, and in everyday life.
  • How to motivate yourself with encouragement rather than criticism – becoming your own best guide.
